A panel van conversion is the art of turning a commercial vehicle into your own home. Done in the right order, an ordinary van becomes a fully equipped motorhome in a matter of weeks. Here are the main stages of a professional panel van camper conversion.
1. Choosing the vehicle and planning
The process starts with the right vehicle and a good plan. The interior layout is designed on paper and in 3D around how you intend to use the camper. The positions of the kitchen, bed, bathroom and storage are decided at this stage.
2. Stripping out and preparation
The vehicle is prepared for conversion: unnecessary interior panelling is removed, surfaces are cleaned, and the cut-outs needed for windows, ventilation and services are planned.
3. Insulation
This is perhaps the most critical stage. The walls, roof and floor are covered with suitable materials for thermal and sound insulation (for example XPS, rubber-based insulation or wool-type products). Good insulation provides year-round comfort and keeps condensation under control.
4. Floor and framework
After insulation, a solid floor is laid and the timber framework that the furniture will be mounted on is built. This framework carries the entire interior, so it needs to be both light and strong.
5. Electrical system
The wiring is run before the furniture is closed up. Batteries, solar panels, inverter and charging systems are installed according to the planned consumption. Sockets, USB points and lighting are positioned at this stage.
6. Plumbing
The fresh and grey water tanks, water pump, kitchen plumbing and, if included, the shower/washbasin are installed. Everything is carefully tested for leaks to avoid problems later.
7. Windows, ventilation and roof light
Natural light and airflow define how comfortable the interior feels. Side windows, the roof light (Heki) and ventilation fans are fitted at this stage.
8. Furniture and interior
Kitchen units, bed, seating and storage units are installed. Choices of fabric, worktop and finishes give the interior its character. Attention to detail in the workmanship is what turns an ordinary conversion into a premium living space.
9. Appliances and final assembly
Appliances such as the fridge, hob, heater and air conditioning are connected, and every system is tested one by one.
10. Registration
Finally, the project approval, TSE certification and M1 conversion processes required for Turkish vehicle registration are carried out. Your vehicle is now officially a motorhome.
